Austria: Celebrating 27 years of the Ombud for Equal Treatment

The Austrian Ombud for Equal Treatment celebrates its 27th year in 2018, which also marks the 15th anniversary of the implementation of European legislation on the setting up of equality bodies.
This symposium aimed to address some of the hot topics in the context of anti-discrimination law and equality bodies, as well as celebrate the retirement of the outgoing Ombud, Ingrid Nikolay-Leitner.

Ombudsman of the Republic of Latvia publishes Guidelines for employers on reasonable accommodation for employees with disability

The Ombudsman of the Republic of Latvia in cooperation with the Organization of people with disabilities and their friends “APEIRONS”, Society for persons with visual impairments “Redzi mani” of Riga, Society Integration found, the Latvian Association of the Deaf, Association for people with hearing impairments “Sadzirdi.lv” of Latvia and the Autism Society of Latvia has drafted the guidelines for employers on reasonable accommodation.

Cooperation of the Advocate of the Principle of Equality with the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights

Within the context of international bilateral cooperation, the idea of cooperation on a specific project surfaced in discussion with the Dutch Embassy in Slovenia. The cooperation project was carried out in October 2017, beginning with the visit of the delegation from the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights, their peer review, and organisation of a public discussion on discrimination in the workplace based on gender and age in Ljubljana. The series of events concluded in December 2017 with the visit of a delegation of the Advocate of the Principle of Equality from Slovenia to Utrecht. The delegation partook in an education and presentation event of the Dutch equality body and visited one of the Dutch non-governmental organisation, dedicated to fighting discrimination.

Belgium: Unia wins the e-Gov Award for Innovation

Unia has won the Agoria e-Gov Award in the category Innovation with the Handicap module of the eDiv online training course. This course makes companies aware of the anti-discrimination legislation and answers questions about diversity with practical examples. The ceremony took place on 7 December 2017.

2017 European Year of focused action to fight violence against women

2017 has been designated by the European Commission as the year dedicated to combating violence against women. Many equality bodies are on the forefront of this work, carrying out projects aimed at developing and implementing practical and targeted information to combat violence against women, as well as awareness-raising and education activities. 25 November is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
