On 29th November 2017, The Ombudsman of the Republic of Latvia in cooperation with the Organization of people with disabilities and their friends “APEIRONS” and National library of Latvia organizes their annual conference on the implementation of UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The conference is organized for the third year. It will address the employment of persons with disabilities.
During the conference, people with disabilities will share their positive and negative experiences of the labour market; representatives of state institutions (Parliament; Ministry of Welfare, State Employment Agency etc.) will inform about current and future national policies, programs and plans to improve employment situation for persons with disabilities.
The Ombudsman will present new guidelines for employers on reasonable accommodation. The guidelines were drafted in cooperation with the Organization of people with disabilities and their friends “APEIRONS”, Society for persons with visual impairments “Redzi mani” of Riga, Society Integration found, the Latvian Association of the Deaf, Association for people with hearing impairments “Sadzirdi.lv” of Latvia and the Autism Society of Latvia.
The guidelines are a practical tool for employers on how (not why) to ensure reasonable accommodation (psychical environment, job process etc.) for employees with movement disorders, for employees with vision/ hearing impairments and employees with autism.
Additionally to the conference, a networking event for persons with disabilities will be organized. The day will end with the award ceremony for people with disabilities NGOs.
