On 17th and 18th October 2017, the UN Office for Human Rights (OHCHR), the International Disability Alliance (IDA), the European Disability Forum (EDF) and Equinet co-organised a technical workshop on engaging with the UNCRPD Committee.
The workshop gathered Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) from 13 countries coming soon for review by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD Committee).
Carole Van Basselaere, from Unia (Belgium) and Darijo Jurisic from the Office of the Ombudswoman for Persons with Disabilities (Croatia) presented the work of their equality body in the context of their mandate of article 33 independent mechanisms.
The objectives of the workshop were to:
- increase participants’ understanding of the human rights mechanisms of the United Nations (UN),
- and to provide them with tools to engage with the CRPD Committee.
