The Italian National Office against Racial Discrimination (UNAR) is launching the VII “Action Week against Racism”, from 14-21 March 2011. In this framework, numerous initiatives will take place across Italy. The aim is to promote an exchange of good practices against discrimination throughout the country.
The central event of the “Action Week” will be an “International Conference on the Integrated Networks for the Prevention and Removal of Discrimination” to be held in Rome on 14-15 March 2011.
This international conference, which will include a plenary session by the Italian Minister for Equal Opportunities, will focus on the role of local authorities, which are close to citizens and therefore in a good position to understand, prevent and eradicate racial discrimination.
This event will bring together European governmental authorities acting at national and local level, and reknown speakers from international agencies committed to the fight against discrimination – Equinet, the European Network of Equality Bodies, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, and the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance.
